Bandwagon
This propaganda poster by Mc Donald’s is a good example of bandwagon. Bandwagon is a propaganda technique of making people follow the majority. Ever since 1937, Patrick McDonald, who made McDonald’s, started to sell hamburgers. In the poster, under the words “McDonald’s Hamburgers” it says, “Over 99 billion served.” The indirect meaning of the phrase “Over 99 billion served” can suggest that “everyone is buying our hamburgers, so shouldn’t you join the majority?” Also, the phrase can give customers an idea that the McDonald’s burgers are a long term popular food that all people eat, so it must be pleasant to our taste. Emotional appeal is another propaganda technique used in this poster because the bright and different colorful colors can give an idea to a customer that Mcdonalds is a very nice and fun place to hang around, chit chat and enjoy. The customer’s attention can be taken away from the bright and large yellow letter “M” that can be seen as a welcome sign, to draw in customers.
